Reflection Week 17

Given that this will be my final reflection post, I decided to give the whole run around of the Part 2 20% Time Project. I had a great time creating the crafts and it will last in the long run; maybe, if my little cousins don't break them. I enjoyed doing this because when I was a kid I loved playing with toys that actually worked and moved. My little cousins will have a blast when they play with my toys.

Reflection Week 16

Working on models, however I'm having some trouble configuring the DC Motor to work with the switch... I am looking up ways to fix it. YouTube and Google helps A LOT. Thanks to the people who made those apps.

Reflection Week 14

Ok so I got tired of waiting for the DC Motor so I went to Walmart to get one. I still have to get a switch and I need to stop wasting time. Honestly, I haven't been on my grind lately, I have been slacking. I promise I will get myself back together after my other prom at the end of the week.

Reflection Week 13

As the clock is winding down for Finals, my project isn't still 100% complete. I am still having a few problems: MY DC MOTOR HASN'T BEEN DELIVERED YET. I'm honestly just about to go to Walmart and buy one instead of waiting on the delivery. I should not have put my whole trust into the delivery of the DC Motor anyway which is my fault. I get my car back tomorrow (May 14), so when I get it back I will go to Walmart to buy one to complete my project.

Reflection Week 12

Today is Thursday, May 5th. I am still waiting on the DC Motors to come from the mail. If it does not come in by tomorrow I am going to continue building the separate bodies for the toys (boats, cars, helicopter). I am modeling my first few creations off of YouTube videos just for a start and then I am going to create stuff from pure imagination. I am also going to record me making the toys and make a small video to include into my PowerPoint.

Reflection Week 11

Still waiting on the Motor to be mailed in. I believe it should be coming in this week so as soon as it comes in I could start creating the projects. I can't wait I'm very excited...

Reflection Week 10

These last two weeks have been pretty stressful for me for the events that took place. My cousin lost his life from a horrible incident (April 12). This is why most of my work has not been completed and I apologize for that. I missed school Wednesday (the 20th), Thursday (the 21st) and Friday (the 22nd) due to the wake, funeral, and then the burial. Also Sunday (the 24th) was my birthday. I guess you could say this was one of the weirdest events that happened to me. But I plan to get right back on track with my schoolwork and my 20% Time Project.

Reflection Week 9

I recently ordered a 24v DC Motor for the engine of the vehicles I plan on creating and just waiting on it to be shipped so i can officially get started. I should start working on the vehicles and just insert the DC Motor when it comes in which will be better cause it will save time but it may also have it's little problems. But I will get started in making a body for the vehicle. The DC Motor that is ordered is in the link below:

Reflection Week 8

Halfway into my project everything is looking well. I am planning to buy the DC Motor this weekend and finally get to work. All I'm waiting for is a check from my job and I'll be set. I am very excited for the outcome. If the first few attempts do not work I will be a little upset but that's what comes with building things. Some may work and some may not. All I have to do is stick to it and fix all the mistakes. When I finish building the first few, I plan on giving all of them to my little cousins and see how they like them.

Reflection Week 7

Over the break I honestly didn't work as much to the project as I know I should've. However, I still made progress though. I found liquid bottles that'll work perfectly with the creations for the project. I just now need to buy the DC Motors to actually finalize the creations and get to finishing them. I am looking to buy a few of the DC Motors in the link below.

Reflection Week 6

This marks week 6 with my reflection. I am currently finishing up designs with my project. I finished making the boat design and now I'm moving onto something that may be just a little bit more challenging: the helicopter. The helicopter has a few more parts that I'll have to worry about but challenges are what I like so I'll do my best. I am still waiting on the DC Motor to come in, however.

Reflection Week 5

Continuing on my new project, I am still learning about the DC Motors. I'm learning all the Do's and Don'ts. Some hazards may include over-temperature, contamination, vibration, altitude, and ambient temperatures. All these things, if not kept in order can go horribly wrong, resulting in the necessity of a new DC Motor. However, everything is going well I am making little designs of how I want the outcome of the designs to look like.

Reflection Week 4

This marks week 4 with my reflection. I'm still researching and deciding what I am going to build first. I am most likely going to build a DC Helicopter first and after that is done I am probably going to make improvements to that or build something else totally different like a boat or something. I already see a challenge coming up however. How am I actually going to make the plane fly? That's my task and we'll see how that turns out. Hopefully good :)

Reflection Week 3

This marks Week 3 with my new project/20% time. I am still looking for lower costing DC Motors that would be best with the project I am about to do. I plan on starting off with a DC Motor and connecting it to a helicopter. I am still deciding on a look/structure/object i am going to use as the shape however. This should be fun

20% Time Proposal

Day 1:

  1. List all of the things you’ve ever wanted to do, physically, and never been able to.
100 push ups non-stop, lift 100 pounds, etc.

  1. List all of the things you’ve ever wanted to do, mentally, and never been able to.
Imagining plans to build stuff like an architect or engineer.

  1. Think of some ways you might be able to help your community.
Guiding the youth, give them free toys, create a program where kids can do something productive with their time.

  1. Think of some ways you might be able to help your school.
Help some people out with their math classes/electives or any subject they will need help in.

  1. Think of some hobbies you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to figuring them out or learning more about them.
Snowboarding, how to ice skate, building kid toys, making electric routers.

Researching

Day 2:
My 20 Time Project is going to be learning about and configuring DC Motors to build and create homemade children toys.

My final product/goal/accomplishment will be multiple children toys made by me with DC Motors as the electric component to make the vehicles move.

What do I need to know about my topic to be successful? (Now research these items and staple them to this handout.)
DC Motors

What will be easy about this project?
The research

What will be difficult about this project?
The actual building of the toys and then configuring the DC Motors to work correctly.

Will most of this project be in class or outside of class?
Mostly outside of class.

If outside, what will I do during the class 20 Time?
Looking up some new vehicles to build and looking up more powerful motors.

Reflection Week 2

This week for starting off my 20% Time Proposal I have been looking up some DC Motors that will be efficient for my project. I also looked up how it will work and what I would have to do to make the Motor work with the homemade toys. Everything is going good and I am pretty excited for the end results.

Reflection Week 1

This starts a new 20% Time Project and this time I plan on learning to how make a small electric motor in order to make kid vehicles. I think it will be worthwhile because if I like it I may even make a business out of selling kid toys. I will start off by giving these little items to my little cousins and see how they like it first.

Proposal

For this 20% Time Project Rerun, I plan on working on a business where I can shop and sell my own/previously own/brand new shoes. I think this is going to be worthwhile because I may even create a business out of something I enjoy doing (collecting and selling shoes). I plan on making a website and instagram page.

Final Reflection Week 16

This is my last and final week for my 20% Time Project. I have had a great time with working on this project. I met so many new people, friends, work out partners, and so many others especially during the Pink Run. I also plan on running in the Color Run with my friends and family in this year to come. I need to decide however if I am going to continue this during the second half of the semester or not. I enjoyed this project but I would like to expand my interests in the second half of the 20% Time Project. Thank you very much for introducing this project to me.
