Reflection #8

My project is to learn how to braid hair, install, and style hair. I was not as busy this week, but I did not braid as much as I planned on. I did watch videos at home and in school though. I watched "Best Braid Patter For A Sew in Weave," "Basic Sew in Start to Finish," and "Braid pattern for sew in with invisible part." In the last video it brings up the invisible part, which is a weave "closure" and none of the person's real hair is out. In the invisible part, the weave is lined up to appear as the part itself. I also read about weave being a protective style. So, some women do not get weave because they do not think their hair is long enough or nice enough, some get it to protect their already long or nice hair. Others use weave as a way to grow out their hair. For example, my sister got a perm when she was 12 and it broke her hair and it became damaged. Last year, at age 20, she decided to cut her hair, go natural, and grow it out. As a way to protect her hair, she got weaves. With weave, one does not have to continuously put heat on their own hair, but the hair they purchased. On the other hand, if a person does not have a "closure" or "invisible part", they will have to still style their leave out (hair left out of the weave) in order to blend it with the weave. Hair that is not blended looks absolutely horrible!!! That is actually one of my biggest pet peeves!!! I also hate when people's tracks (the track of weave sewed into the hair) show!! Tonight, I am going to do the circle and try and convince my cheer coach to let me install her weave because yesterday she was telling me she bought new hair and needs someone to install it.

Reflection Week 8

Christian

This week, I talked to my dad about the idea of getting a camera of my own for Christmas. He was fond of the idea, but added that I can use his camera whenever I please because nobody else in my family uses it often, including him. He works to often and is busy when he is home, so there is not much time for him to use it. I also am in need of a new laptop, as my dad mentioned. He asked me to think if I would get along better with my current laptop and a new camera, or a new laptop and his current camera. I’m just going to have to put some thought into it and decide what is more important. Oh, I also took this picture of my dog, I’m really happy about how it turned out with no editing involved.

Reflection 8

This week my family has gotten multiple home repairs from stores nearby me. I took advantage of this. I would jog and/or run to these stores instead of driving there with my parents. My parents called me crazy because for 1: I ran there instead of driving with my parents; 2: the weather is very very cold out. I actually thought it would help out since we wouldn't have to wait in the store longer since I'll already be there waiting with the groceries/house tools. I believed this will help me out later for spring track and my final project. I watched many videos on youtube and I know I'm not as good as those guys running the mile in 4 minutes....YET. All I have to do is keep it up and one day I'll be on that level.

Reflection 7

This week's completion of scene one continues my driving adventures. I've obererved that the right most lane drivers have a similar characteristics of being slow and super annoying when merging with new lanes. Of course, over the four hours of driving other characteristics popped up for the middle and left most lane which will be the next installation for next week.

I found a new trick within Animatoon that allows me to draw paths for objects to follow. This will improve the speed for me to animate because before I would move the object frame by frame. The smoother transitions and more coordinated paths will be an excellent addition. However I have to go back to my previous scene to follow the same process, which is a small step back. However I am very excited to learn this new skill.

Reflection #7

This week for my 20% time I was able to accomplish very little unfortunately. I started to run low on some materials. I did however use what I had left and added on a couple of more details to my scrapbook. I put some actual pieces of meaningful moments in my life on there.  An example of these things would be a small piece of the dress I was wearing when I got baptized at the age of three years old. It really is crazy how much detail and love goes into a scrapbook. Making this scrapbook has made me appreciate these special moments in my life and I am so excited to see what it is going to look like when it is all done. For this upcoming week I am hoping to learn something new and really move forward in my scrapbooking journey.

Week 7

This week I got sidetracked from...well, life, by Fallout 4. It's an incredible game. A lot of my leisure time, when I wasn't with friends or doing school work, was spent playing this video game. As a result, I didn't get a whole lot accomplished towards my goal here...if it's any better, I didn't get much of anything accomplished this week. The game is incredible though. On Sunday, I picked up on the beat I was playing around with last week, adding different effects and the such. Man, I do love me some reverb effects on the bass. Overall, I still have the skeleton, and I started trying to layer upwards yesterday and will continue to do so this week. I don't know if this would be a beat I'd present for a midterm project, but it certainly is...something, a physical thing I created. The quality isn't so bad either. It's not anything head turning, but it's not totally horrible either. I'd like to make a lot more progress this week, but Fallout 4 looms large. We shall see....

Reflection 7

This week I continued to add things to my code. Right now it's very generic and I haven't put in any details or any thing specific. I added a section of the code for a photo and I made sections for text.

Week 7

In all honesty, this week has been a rollercoaster. Yes, the over-used, cliche, rollercoaster. I ran 7 miles on Tuesday, 8 on Thursday and 7 again on Saturday. And all the other days of the week? Nothing. Not a thing. Sunday, which was supposed to be my long run, I worked from 7 in the morning, to... just now. Even if I had the strength in my legs, my gym closes at 10 p.m. so I would've never made it. And it isn't exactly a genius idea to go running in my neighborhood (or really any neighborhood) at this hour. I'm exhausted. Friday was the same. I came home from school and immediately went to work. There just hasn't been enough hours in the day. hopefully next week I'll have more time during the day.

REFLECTION 7

This week I returned to my usual routine of learning one meal each week; I learned how to cook white rice. My mother guided me through the process of cooking white rice by telling every step and remaining close to enjoin me. I began cooking white rice by washing the starch out of the rice, therefore I poured water until 2/3 of the bowl was filled and rice until 1/3 of the bowl was filled with rice. I proceeded to rinse and mic the rice until it stopped secreting a whit backdrop, so about 4 times. Once The rice was clean I put it on the stove and turned it on and I waited until the water starts boiling before I added the sheave to the underneath of it. Eventually I added the plastic to cover the rice and begin the steaming process. Overall, my rice turned out fine however next time I hope to begin the steaming process a little earlier because it almost dried out.

Week 7, huh.

Okay, I haven't had that great a week, and am honest-to-God I'm glad it's over.

I skipped school on Monday and Tuesday because I was in a foul mood/felt kinda sick. So when I felt better on Tuesday, I walked across town to the train station. Across from the train station parking lot, there is a secluded path where the trains run overhead. There is a chain link fence with gaping holes every so often, and beyond it, there is an empty lot where nothing takes residence except trees and grass. There is a pause in the fence for two ramps that lead to a street. Conveniently, there is an unfinished brick structure sitting directly in front of the ramps. I was tired, and I had my sketchbook with me so I did a quick drawing of the house right near the path. Then it started to rain, so I stopped drawing and went elsewhere.

And, sorry about the lack of pictures! My printer is being screwy. Yuck.

I can't honestly say I've done anything else significant other than the usual watching videos and reading pdfs. So.
Drizzy out.

Reflection Week 7

This week, I started learning colors. Ironically, the YouTube channel I have been watching had just uploaded a Signed  English translation of a song called Colors too, so I figured I might as well try to do that too. Coffeehouse was this week and one of the performances was Misery Business, which was the first song that I learned. I was on tech crew for the show, so every day backstage during rehearsal and the show I signed it to my friends while it was going. That was pretty cool, and my friend who I have been updating on my progress with this project was backstage with me and said she was impressed that I am now much better at keeping up with the time, which made me feel good. I think I have worked through my frustration from last week. Understanding that the learning process is different has helped a lot. I went it to this project with expectations and I now know that I can't do that, because sign language is very different than anything I've learned in school before. Plus, the learning process is completely up to me, which is obviously different than having a teacher you see every other day and tests every few classes.

Week 7 reflection

This has been a great week for me and my training plan. Now that I've incorporated fencing into my training and focused everything on improving my fencing, it's been going very well. I began this week by creating a schedule for the next three weeks in advance. I'm not sure what my goal exactly is now that I've changed the focus of my exercising, but it will have something to do with my current goal on improving endurance and speed. Now on to my schedule this week. To start off, I had 2 running days, 1 flexibility day, and 2 strength training days this week. Monday and Thursday were my running days. On Monday I worked on my endurance, running for distance, at a medium jogging pace, while Thursday was a speed day, when I ran faster and for time not distance. Wednesday was my flexibility day, and I did this while I was at my fencing club before my lesson. My strength days were Friday during fitness and Saturday at home. Other than what I stated earlier, not much has changed in my routine.

Reflection 7

This week I attempted to play the song Wonderwall, but failed really badly. I thought it would be okay but I kept stumbling on the chord transitions and strumming techniques. I went on YouTube and watched a bunch of different tutorials on how to play the song and many others. I also attempted to play Creep just to try it out and had the same problem. I guess my guitar skills are just not up to par at the moment. The past weeks I just spent learning simple things, and now I realized how difficult it actually is to have to play an actual song rather than a few chords. I'm determined to practice a lot more and succeed in playing a song. From this week on, I will try my very best to get a lot more work done to ensure a better outcome.

Reflection #7

My project is to learn how to braid hair, install, and style hair. This week was kind of setback, I've been bus with college apps and cheerleading. I did practice braiding although my goal of getting the braids to be smaller did not happen, I did get them to be more neat. I was not in class on Friday because I took my road test and this was an all around busy week. I enjoy braiding a lot more now and just want to perfect it so I can move on to installing the hair. I watched a hair stylist install a weave on Saturday while I got my hair done. She made it look very easy, but I know it is not. The whole process seems to take a long time and for my end product, I am going to need to set aside a good amount of time to successfully complete it. Next week, I will work harder on getting the braids smaller and finally start the circle.

Reflection Week 7

For the first time this week, I created two blog posts. This was my original gosl for 20 Percent Time, but due to the work I've been having, I have only been able to create one post a week. I decided to write about Rachel Dolezal and what's been happening at Missouri. Hopefully I can keep making posts two days out of the week. I have a lot of ideas on what I want to write next, and I want to be able to share them so more people can read them.

Reflection 7

I know I said I was done with my practice scarf in my last post, but I've actually continued working on it a little bit this week. Mostly because I haven't gotten the chance to go to the store and get new supplies to start my actual scarf with. I'm going to try to go sometime this weekend. I've realized that I really really really like knitting. It almost feels like a type of meditation because its so relaxing and easy to get lost in. I honestly didn't think I would like it as much as I do. Last week, I literally sat in my living room and knit for 3 hours straight while listening to music and I had no idea that that much time had gone by. I also started  recognizing different stitches in scarves and sweaters. Like I can look at my scarves and tell what stitch was used. Most scarves use rib stitches so I decided that I was going to use that for my scarf. It's also because it's the lightest and loosest stitch if that makes any sense. I just wanted to say that I'm pretty happy with the way things have been going.

Reflection Week 7

Christian

This week I took a break from actually taking pictures to research some cameras. I use my dad’s Nikon D70 to take pictures, but I’d like a camera of my own. My birthday is coming up in a few weeks, with Christmas following up the rear so I thought a camera would be a great idea for a gift. My dad recommended that I look into Nikon cameras because he has a lot of experience with them and could help me if I need it. After researching, I narrowed down the spectrum to the Nikon D3300 and the Nikon D5300. The D3300 is a very nice beginner camera, offering everything that I could ask for, but the D5300 takes it to the next level. It offers a Vari-angle LCD that swivels a full 180°. It also offers a shutter button option that when held down, takes pictures at five frames a second capturing a movement into a collection of photos.

Reflection 7

I improved from last week where I did no exercise at all. However, I did not do any running exercises this week. This week I strictly focused on my diet plan. I drunk 2 bottles minimum everyday and at most 4 bottles. The only day I didn't drink water was today, Friday (the 13th), which is because I literally drunk up the whole package of water bottles my mom bought. The usually goes shopping every Saturday so we'll restock and I'll be back drinking water on Saturday. I eat way less calories and I went to Wendy's/any other fast-food places less ever since I started this project. I am very proud of myself because I always wanted to stop eating fast-food but I could never fulfill this objective until now.

Week 6

Week 6 has been a great step back. I haven't been running at all. Because of my new job, I haven't had the motivation. It's getting harder to find the time to go outside or to the gym. Our 4 day weekend took a toll on me. I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to increase my run but instead it was nothing but work and studying. I did go to the gym on Tuesday and Friday , and did some cardio. But it wasn't nearly as much as I've been doing before this week. I hope this doesn't cause a drastic decrease in my mileage. As far as the diet, it hasn't completely been forgotten. Only one cheat day, Saturday. And that was because of the free food from work. So my job has had a negative impact on my running but I plan on altering my schedule to fit in my runs.

Reflection Week 6

I reread the Supreme Court’s majority opinions (and its concurrences) alongside its dissent. Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the Court’s opinion using the First Amendment as his source, stating: “When government seeks to use its full power, including the criminal law, to command where a person may get his or her information or what distrusted source he or she may not hear, it uses censorship to control thought. This is unlawful. The First Amendment confirms the freedom to think for ourselves.” Kennedy also argued that “[t]he government may regulate corporate political speech through disclaimer and disclosure requirements, but it may not suppress that speech altogether.” The author of the dissend, Justice Stevens, wrote: “The basic premise underlying the court’s ruling is its iteration, and constant reiteration, of the proposition that the First Amendment bars regulatory distinctions based on a speaker’s identity, including its ‘identity’ as a corporation. While that glittering generality has rhetorical appeal, it is not a correct statement of the law.” This case would only add to the big “debate” over whether or not corporations are people (just writing that sentence made my brain hurt). As Justice Ginsburg would say, “A corporation is a form of business enterprise. It gives the owners a certain advantage; they’re not going to be liable for the debts of the corporation beyond the capital of the corporation itself.”

Reflection Week 5

I listened to the two oral arguments of Citizens United v. FEC, the first one occurred on March 24, 2009 and the second on September 9, 2009. I had listened to both recordings before, thanks to
Oyez, a law project that grants access to the majority of the Court’s cases, arguments, and opinions to everyone. It was a different experience hearing the then Solicitor General Elena Kagan speak on behalf of the federal government, rather than on the bench as one of the nine justices. Kagan delivered the same fiery disputation as a lawyer as she does as a justice on the court. An important fact is one of the individual’s who argued for Citizens United. Theodore B. Olson represented Citizens United, he was also a solicitor general under President George W. Bush, and he just so happens to represent the Koch Brothers, just two brothers are worth over $100bn.

Reflection Week 4

I devoted my time on reading, analyzing, and looking deeper into one of the most important articles/resources regarding Citizens United v. FEC. In May of 2012 (almost three years after the Court’s decision) Jeffrey Toobin of the New Yorker released “Money Unlimited” which would later be known as almost a tell-all. The main argument within the article, supported by vast amounts of evidence, is that Chief Justice John Roberts was not impartial in the case and legislated on the bench, or judicial activism. A judge is to remain without bias and to interpret law, not to act in his or her own court. Going all the way back to 2003, Toobin brings up how CJ Roberts told conservatives that the Supreme Court was ready and looking for a case to declare the McCain-Feingold Act unconstitutional. Then Toobin brought up that citizens cannot escape advertisements (regarding the 30 and 60-day restrictions before elections), but they can voluntarily avoid reading a book about a candidate, by simply not reading it. During oral argument, the more conservative Supreme Court Justices, like Justice Samuel Alito, trapped Malcolm Stewart (arguing for the respondent) in saying that Congress could prohibit both advertisements and books within the periods. CJ Roberts is also accused for judicial activism again because of his decision for reargument. There were two oral arguments for this case, spanning two of the Court’s terms. One reason  for reargument was to expand the majority opinion’s interpretation and secondly to stop Justice David Souter’s dissent from being published in the Court’s official opinion. Justice Souter was retiring at the end of the 2008-2009 term and therefore held no constraint in his dissent and accused Roberts of acting for his own personal gain. In response, Roberts let the case go for reargument in the next term, following the retirement of Souter, and the dissent was written by Justice John Paul Stevens.

Reflection Week 3

This week I looked at the numbers regarding how groups of Americans view the political process and campaign finance. Luckily, the New York Times created a graphic with data from CBS News Polls to explain how American adults view this complex and significant topic. By looking at the numbers, I tried figuring out if the country was split on campaign finance reform based on their political leanings or if this issue is equally important to the average American, regardless of their ideologies. According to the poll, 90% of Democrats and 80% of Republicans believe money has too much of an influence in the political process and within government. 58% of Americans believe both parties benefit from money in politics, while 54% of Americans think unlimited campaign spending is not free speech. Independents, I would argue, are leading the reform for campaign finance as 59% of them believe in quid pro quo corruption (most of the time) and 53% of them support a complete reconstruction of political funding. A surprising statistic is that 66% of American adults that make over $100K a year also believe candidates promote policies (most of the time) that are related to their donors.

REFLECTION SEIS

This week I didn't learnt any new dishes however I cooked some of the dishes that I had already learned. So i would call this week a review week and I think every once in awhile I will have a week dedicated to practicing what I already learned. Therefore over the past few days I cooked an omelette/ egg, roasted chicken, and fried turkey, the egg\omelette,and roasted chicken came out well. However the fried turkey was less to be desired. It had more taste that last time and I got through frying the whole batch no problem but it was still lacking a really good taste that my mom usually puts on it. Overall I think this week did well to reinforce my memory and give me experience.

Reflection Week #6

This week for my 20% time project I took the time to print out some more pictures and try to dig up some old ones so that my scrapbook could have some more character. I have made the next few pages and have been applying the techniques that I have learned thus far. The technique that I learned this week was the use of vellum. Vellum gives the page a "fancy feel" and it is very pretty. It makes whatever is under it look very soft and delicate. I love how thin this material is and how it works. It is very versatile. I can write words on the vellum and place it over a nice background so that it appears softly behind the words. Everything is coming along nicely. Time has become an obstacle in this project but, I am trying my best to make sure that it is completed, neat, and full of wonderful memories with the people that I love.

Reflection Week 6

Christian

This week, I talked to my mom's friend Angela Sandull, who owns her own photography company. She owns multiple cameras, pushing several thousand dollars each. She also had an addition done on her house a few years ago, which is a studio suited for a professional setting. She let me play with her cameras which was fun and I was also able to shoot in her studio during her off time. I was able to get a feeling of how Photography can be an actual career. It was a very different experience than going out by myself and shooting mostly nature.

Reflection Week 5

Christian
This week, I started to try to use my dad's camera in strictly Manual Mode. I took my camera out during the day, when light level is high. The high amount of light resulted in me setting my aperture to a low value, which lets a small amount of light in. Unlike most cameras, my camera does not automatically set the ISO when in manual mode, so I set the ISO to a low value, which focuses less on the light of the picture that you are shooting.

Week #6

This week was the first week that I began focusing my efforts towards building endurance and speed, so my week was really focused on running. I wasn't home all Sunday and Saturday, so I used those as my break day. Monday was a running day where I focused my efforts on things like long jogs to build endurance. Tuesday was a flexibility day that I used to stretch out my muscle. Wednesday was a strength training day, I used this day to build up arm strength rather than focusing 100% on legs. Thursday was also a flexibility day, and Friday was finally another running day, but this time I decided to focus on speed, so I did things like 1:30 second short fast sprints with a 30 second cool down for a total of about 25 minutes. That about wrapped up week #6, I've haven't decided to change anything for next week because I feel that this schedule is pretty decent.

Reflection 6

This week was quite busy for me so I was not able to work on the project as much as I wanted to do I worked on the introduction of the video by finally utilizing the skills I;ve gained through the hardships the last couple of weeks. I was able to make the cartoon wave properly and include transitions between the scenes It's really quite surreal to see something that I've created come together. Although it is only 20 seconds now, getting more scenes would not be a problem because I've already planned out the script and the characters involved. All I need now is to draw the scenes and follow through with my personal deadline. This week did not provide any obstacle, but it does provide a milestone in my progress because I am becoming familiar with the software and roles I have to play to make this cartoon a success.

I can't be bothered to find out what week this is, honestly.

This week wasn't as productive as I thought it would be...?

I can't use the computer where I have Krita downloaded because the chord that it charges with has gone missing. Whoop-de-do. But on the bright side, I've had a lot of spare time this week, and I've managed to draw something everyday. I like to use random sheets of computer paper rather than my sketchbook, but I don't care as long  as I draw something once in a while.

I feel kinda bad that I haven't posted any artwork on here (since what, like week three), but I'll doodle something on Tuesday and try and find a way to scan it to a computer. I've tried to use the Lexmark printer at my house, but I think I faxed a picture to the landline.

Or actually, maybe Wednesday. The next GOP debate is Tuesday, and I plan to watch. But let it be known that I'm not a republican, it's just that everything Trump says is either repugnant or hilarious, and I don't want to miss a second of it. But I digress, the class blog isn't really the place for politics. See you later. Drizzy out.

Reflection Week 6

This week I worked on further understanding the generator effects of Fruity Loops. At this point, for the most part, laying down a skeleton beat isn't amazingly difficult (although to make one with rhythm and of quality? Not so easy). The challenge comes in understanding the effects the various manipulative tools have on the basic beats. For example, you can pick a certain kick drum from a preset sound, and it makes the sound a kick drum makes. You can edit, however, the depth of the kick drum, how long it lasts, any reverb effects, etc. It's coming to understand what effects work with what patterns and sounds. Think of it like a pizza. It's simple, for the most part, to make a regular cheese pizza. But when it comes to picking the toppings, and the type of topping (what brand of sausage, pepperoni), and how they all interact together? Well, that's where the challenge is, and only time and effort will help me sort through it.

Reflection 6

This week didn't exactly as planned. I originally planned to practice a lot more than I've done the past few weeks, but a lot of homework and parties got in the way. I practiced the chords I've already learned and practiced my strumming techniques and rhythm. This week mostly consisted of me searching YouTube for what song to play, because I want to start learning it as soon as possible. I realized how hard it is to find a song, because there are soo many songs out there and I just don't know where to start. I've been looking into a lot of songs, but I feel as if they're not challenging enough. After watching a bunch of tutorials and covers, I thought that maybe instead of playing ONE song, I can put together a medley of 2-3 songs in order to show different skills among them. A couple songs that I have in mind are Creep by Radiohead and Wonderwall by oasis, but I'm not exactly sure if they're good enough. If anyone has suggestions, please do comment! I hope to decide on a song(s) and start learning asap!

Reflection 6

This week I began to come up with more specific ideas as to what I should include in my HTML coding. Now that I have learned more about the code, and have more resources I have a better idea about what I will be capable of putting in the code. One of my ideas was just to make an informational website. This way, the website will have a purpose, and I will be able to show what I've learned. This website will include text, pictures, links directing you to other websites, and more. I hope to start putting together my code this week.

Reflection Week 6

This is the first week I actually didn't exercise. I am kind of disappointed at myself but I was pretty busy this whole week regarding school, work, college apps, and taking the SATs. Week 6 was full of education and stress with little to no exercises. I do plan however to work out twice as hard week 7 and getting back to my regular routine.

Reflection Week 6

This week I did not create any blog posts. I had a lot of school work to complete, and this week I had an event to go to at my sister's college. One of my sister's friends told me up front that she really liked how I wrote and that I wrote better than some of the students in her class. It was nice to hear such positive feedback from someone who wasn't a part of the family.

I have ideas on what I want to write about, but I feel they are too explicit, and I want to write my pieces gradually. My goal for this week is to create two blog posts out of the week, since I typically do one.

Reflection Week 6

This week I did all of my learning at home. I am not sure if we had class time on Tuesday because I was home sick, but I don't think we did. Either way, I watched a lot of videos while I was home. I focused on counting mainly; it actually ended up being more difficult than I would have expected just because it is different from counting on your fingers like when you're little (which is what I expected it to be). I have to admit I feel a little bit silly about that. Sign language is very complex, and I feel kind of bad for just assuming it would be easy? Well I don't know if easy is the right word. I knew it would come with its difficulties, but I think I underestimated how calculated it is. I feel like this is making it sound like I do not like it though, which is totally not the case. If anything, I am even more interested. It's fascinates me how it is almost like its own science, but I think I was a bit hot headed going into the process, because I just assumed I would be able to get past any difficulties and pick up on the language.
Essentially, I never thought counting would be the thing to get me. I used to take French and Spanish, and I was awful at both, but I could still count. So struggling so much on counting in sign language was frustrating, and I'm sure I will need reinforcement as we go on, but the process has grounded me. Learning through the songs has been relatively easy for me, but I know in any verbal language that would never work. I guess this week just made me realize that the learning process for sign language is much more different from that of verbal languages than I expected.

Reflection 6

I finally finished my practice pattern this week. I'm going to insert a picture of it below. The yarn I used was multi-colored and kind of ugly because like I said before, I already had it around my house so I didn't have much of a choice. The fact that it was multi-colored makes it kind of difficult to see the different stitching but I'll try my best to explain. The stitch I started with (the one all the way on the right) is called a garter stitch. The next one to the left is a rib stitch. Then I went back to a garter stitch. After that, I tried a seed stitch and then I did about four rows of a garter stitch again at the very end. Before this week, I didn't really know what the names of all these different stitches were until I decided to do some more research this week. I'm really happy with my progress and I'm excited to go out and buy some new yarn and needles to get started on my scarf.

Reflection #6

My project is to learn how to braid hair, install, and style hair. This week at my cheerleading practice, I cornrowed multiple different hair textures. A few friends and I were not apart of the routine so I spent an hour practicing on different people with a plethora of different textures. I did three big braids on one friend with straight, silky, and shorter hair. I did a few braids on my friend with tight curls and another few on a friend with a wavy curly pattern. One thing I've been noticing is that due to time restraints and inpatient friends, I braid really thick cornrows and need to cut down the size for a weave because the braids must be very tight and small to make the hair closer to the scalp and to give off a natural appeal. Also, I typically braid without a clean part and nothing to hold the excess hair and the braids become sloppy, but I only do that so my friends do not have time to say no to me practicing in their hair. Furthermore, I tried to braid in a circle, but my friend would not let me, so I stopped since my hair doll is my locker. Next week, I will work on getting the braids smaller and try to start the circle.

REFLECTION CINCO

This week my mother taught me how to roast chicken. We began by taking taking the chicken out the freezer in order to let it thaw; once the chicken became soft we cut the fat off of it. Afterwards, proceeded to seasoning it; we spread the seasoning all over the chicken and eventually inside of the chicken. Then we put the chicken inside the oven and let it cook, however we consistently checked the chicken to make sure it didn't burn. In the end the chicken came out fantastic. I hope to apply what I learned to seasoning turkey for thanksgiving but next week's focus is on rice.

Reflection Week 5

This marks week 5 of me still going along with my plan of running and improving my times as well as physical aspects of my body. My diet has been going along well. Everyday I bring a bottle of water to school (which is something I never used to do). I have been on countless websites tutoring myself to do better in my mile run. I learned: the only way to get better in improving mile run, is to keep running them.

Reflection #5

This week I've done a lot more research on html coding. What I researched was focused more on the content of the code, rather than formatting it. I learned how to input links and images to an html code and how to change it's appearance on the actual website being made. These are definitely things that I will include in my code.

Reflection week 5

Chelsie: Scrap-booking

This week for my 20% time project I was able to research and apply a new technique to my scrap-book: creating textured backgrounds. I learned that doing this actually makes the page come to life. I have made grid like patterns and dots along my background to do this. I am also using paint-like markers to make the text in my scrap-book poop out as well. By putting text on the pages, I can actually quote anything memorable throughout my scrap-book. So far, my project is running smoothly and the results that I am getting are beautiful. It is really coming along and I can't wait to see what the final result is going to be like when it is all together.

Reflection 5

This week I decided to switch the gears and focus on the storyboard aspect of this cartoon. The story line of my cartoon is to share my experience during my trip to Boston this summer. The observations I made about the characteristics of each lane was quite funny and I think that the viewer can empathize and laugh at some of the moments. A short summary is that the lane on the right is the overly cautious and slow drivers, the middle lane represents the indecisive drivers, and the left lane represents the Grand Theft Auto video game swerving speeding and swerving like crazy. I think the graphics will help like the viewer visualize and share the emotions that I experienced myself.

I realize that making a video includes more than drawing. It includes dialogue, a story line, and viewer engagement. Like real world jobs, I have to wear many hats as a one woman production team. But I am enjoying myself despite the workload.

REFLECTION WEEK 5

Well everything has continued to go great. The diet goes well during the week. On Wednesday (which has become my long run day) I finally broke my plateau. I ran 7 miles. I have to admit, it was more challenging than expect it. I didn't feel the effects until I STOPPED running. When I stopped, I was out of breath and close to vomiting. It took me a while to settle down. Perhaps I should run two or more hours after eating to ensure digestion and prevent this from happening. I might have to do some research on that.
The cold continues to bother me. I have no long running pants so I still run in shorts. My skin gets red and irritated. I'll have to invest in pants soon.
This weekend was another set back. Halloween did not encourage healthy eating. I ate more candy Saturday than I did all year. And I didn't exercise or run.
Now that I have a job, finding the motivation to continue to run is difficult. I get home very late and still have to do my homework. But I'm trying to schedule my day so that I accomplish everything.

Reflect Week #5

To start off this weekend, I've decided to discuss with my coach about how this 20% Time Project can affect my fencing, and we've both come to the conclusion that this project would help me improve my endurance and speed. Before I started though, I had to research and find an exercise that would help me improve endurance and speed, and that was running. This led me to the conclusion that tempo-runs, a form of running, were exactly what I needed in order to improve both endurance and speed at the same time. This is something I'll be implementing into week 6, because I found this out halfway through this week. To start off, Saturday and Sunday were competition days, so I felt these could considered as workout days due to intensity of the 3 hours that I was there, and I would count these as cardio days. Monday and Friday were strength training days, so I spent time in the gym on Friday, and worked out at home on Monday. Wednesday was my flexibility training day, so I dedicated my half hour to stretching. That is week #6 of my 20% Time project.

Reflection Week 5

This week, I finished my first Signed English song. I am super excited about it! I signed it out for my friends on Halloween but I still can't go fast enough to match the song so I had to dictate what I was signing which sounded a little weird, but still very exciting. I am able to pick apart my knowledge of signs to form phrases which is really cool. On Friday I slept over at my friend's house and tried to sign every word I knew in my normal speech. This wasn't a lot comparatively, but it made me feel good being able to sign random words in the conversations I was having. I think I am going to learn more of the songs in my time in class, because I think it helped to learn words in context instead of just watching a video where the words are just dictated then signed.
I also started learning numbers this week, which is much more complicated than I expected it to be. Once you get in the high 20s and on there is a pattern, but up to that is really confusing. Next week, I want to focus on solidifying counting, and learning colors and foods.

Reflection 5

Finally, a good week. I'm pretty proud of the progress I made these last few days. I set aside some time to start over on my practice scarf and it's starting to look okay. I realized that the edges of the scarf are kind of curling inward so I'm going to try to figure out why and fix that. I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I will once I finish this practice scarf and start my real one. During class time, I started a powerpoint presentation because I'm starting to think about how I want to present my final project to the class. I figured that I could add pictures and some basic knowledge about knitting. I don't know, I'm not exactly sure yet but its a good start.

Reflection Week 5

Along with my usual routine of watching different tutorials on using fruity loops and recreating popular beats, I experimented with multiple different drum and piano patterns. At this point, I'm attempting to learn basic rhythm and making the drums and keys sound...appealing. This is very difficult, as it turns out, especially with the myriad of features fruity loops offers, in terms of changing the effects of notes. All in all, I feel better about using the actual program, and it's just a lot of trial and error to become proficient at making the music. On a happier note, I sent out my early action apps, which will be a huge stress reliever for me, and provide me with more leisure time. This will take time more than anything else, so this bodes well for my project.

Reflection 5

This week I decided to look more into the song that I am going to play by the end of the semester. Since I definitely won't need to know every single chord, etc., I decided that instead of learning everything, I am going to find the song that I am going to play and then learn the skills needed in that song. I realized that it would take too much time to learn every single thing, and that I should just backtrack from the song I will be learning and mainly focus on that one song. As of now I have not decided what song to play, but I am looking into it right now. I plan to choose a song that is not too hard for me to learn by the end of the semester, but not too easy either. This week I learned how to play the G7, C7, and B7 chords. It felt a bit strange at first because of the finger placing, but it's not that hard actually. Until I decide on a song to play, I'm just going to continue learning what I can and hope all goes well.
