Reflection Week 6
This week I worked on further understanding the generator effects of Fruity Loops. At this point, for the most part, laying down a skeleton beat isn't amazingly difficult (although to make one with rhythm and of quality? Not so easy). The challenge comes in understanding the effects the various manipulative tools have on the basic beats. For example, you can pick a certain kick drum from a preset sound, and it makes the sound a kick drum makes. You can edit, however, the depth of the kick drum, how long it lasts, any reverb effects, etc. It's coming to understand what effects work with what patterns and sounds. Think of it like a pizza. It's simple, for the most part, to make a regular cheese pizza. But when it comes to picking the toppings, and the type of topping (what brand of sausage, pepperoni), and how they all interact together? Well, that's where the challenge is, and only time and effort will help me sort through it.
